The exterior fabric is leather, and it is in the slouch style that I like - so it had enough going for it that I bought it. BUT - the styling was a little nana-ish, and the clour was a bit old-lady-blue, so I decided I needed to make it over a little bit by somehow adding a geometric pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEoIT3D92dazCkd38ROPBMWjXW0HNEEek45TMXxYZqIHBdXE34pF0BQtZqW88gBrHKvVx6XAXtCngGc59syhxkvgrIrXuZhntGwpUYp-kRrS61TfaBaB230LWRdS9Qm61T3nIJkT5Lo8M/s1600/Bag1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEoIT3D92dazCkd38ROPBMWjXW0HNEEek45TMXxYZqIHBdXE34pF0BQtZqW88gBrHKvVx6XAXtCngGc59syhxkvgrIrXuZhntGwpUYp-kRrS61TfaBaB230LWRdS9Qm61T3nIJkT5Lo8M/s1600/Bag1.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I saw a few examples, ranging from the elaborate, to the simple.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/178455628/aztec-hand-embroidered-clutchcasesleeve?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_medium=PageTools&utm_campaign=Share" target="_blank"><img alt="found this on Etsy.. <br />
<a href="http://www.fabricpaperglue.com/2013/03/lets-embroider-some-sht-diy-tote-bag.html" target="_blank"><img alt="How-To: Geometric Tote Bag Embroidery. <br />
In the end, I saw <a href="http://www.ralphlaurenhome.com/products/fabric/item.aspx?haid=85&collId=&shaid=&sort=&itemId=12494&phaid=" target="_blank">this awesome fabric by Ralph Lauren Home</a> and used that as my inspiration, and decided to add a pattern to one panel of the bag using white fabric paint.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
It definitely has a better vibe to it now, and I'm looking forward to wearing it this Summer.<br />

The final project I have completed (with one still on the to-do list but I think I better take a small break) is a Navajo inspired DIY Pallet wood art piece.<br />
<br />
On pinterest I saw these two pins which inspired the project:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ages ago I collected some discarded pallets and they have been propping up the wood pile all winter. I chose a piece, removed the nails and sanded down both sides and the edges to make it safe to hang inside.<br />
<br />
Using the Navajo pattern as my guide, I made a template on the computer to decide on the exact placement of my colours - I chose to use Turquoise and Coral. (The darker green is Hullabaloo by Resene, the lighter green is part Surfie Green by Resene and white, and the coral is made up using craft paint (a mix of red, orange and white).<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmEHMA_yj9NwAoSJqvo7dfCFrzYQKpwWm4sLe4gl7rVbUF1OmX45T6UWOOYSo2v7uSdRAaydVqsUqwIB3CiwEzvmZgNk6OqZvpUMHOIBO6lU2V66YBwgW_7cBFgWvDNJ-NhNBaVA3yDPU/s1600/Navajo+Inspired+Pallet+art.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmEHMA_yj9NwAoSJqvo7dfCFrzYQKpwWm4sLe4gl7rVbUF1OmX45T6UWOOYSo2v7uSdRAaydVqsUqwIB3CiwEzvmZgNk6OqZvpUMHOIBO6lU2V66YBwgW_7cBFgWvDNJ-NhNBaVA3yDPU/s1600/Navajo+Inspired+Pallet+art.jpg" height="640" width="494" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to go with the third configuration, with the idea that later I might make the other two and I can hang them as a triptych. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Essentially putting this together just required a bit of thinking and some maths. I measured the dimensions of the wood, and then divided the length up to work out how deep each of my arrows should be (each individual arrow was 51mm deep, and the large green and white sections were each made up of three sections.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I then masked down each side (Leaving a 25mm gap from the edges), found my centre point, and started my pattern 12.5mm from that point on each side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I then measured out the orange and light green sections and painted those. Lastly masking out the final turquoise section. As this was painted on rough pallet wood, there is some paint run under the tape, through the grain of the wood - but I quite like this and think it adds to the overall aesthetic.</div>

Last weekend I decided I needed two more for the books that were scattered all over his room (and the house) so went up to my local pub and picked up another two for $5 each.<br />
<br />
I have wanted to do something to decorate them, but was unsure what until I saw these two pins on Pinterest:<br />

I loved the idea of adding a pop of colour, but just on the inside. So I went to the paint shop and bought some Bright Orange, almost a Tiffany blue, and a turquise green. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I painted six shelves in various shades - three of each. For the orange I painted one first, then topped up the test pot with white to do the other (each crate used just over half a pot) and then for the third I topped it back up with white to get the lightest shade.</div>

As I wanted a slim-line cover, I did not allow a pocket for the charger - so I decided to make a matching pouch that I could put it in for travelling.<br />
<br />
Surprisingly I could not find a DIY for this anywhere! There are plenty of tutorials for the sleeves/cases, but I have no idea what everyone does with the charger/accessories! So here is what I did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT_QfMjchJTdyvoz6K3UNXwhvxLfiGb-mNEW6QcWnq-njo_sxt1gvADPRhXOk3p1UZlytOe91UtSGqHfu82WUv_vgbhrb2YKieqwr4Mk4eCQN9gFkSewFZHjlZ4_i6so0GW935n05pxwo/s1600/IMG_3884.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT_QfMjchJTdyvoz6K3UNXwhvxLfiGb-mNEW6QcWnq-njo_sxt1gvADPRhXOk3p1UZlytOe91UtSGqHfu82WUv_vgbhrb2YKieqwr4Mk4eCQN9gFkSewFZHjlZ4_i6so0GW935n05pxwo/s1600/IMG_3884.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>WHAT YOU NEED:</b><br />
Fabric for Outer<br />
Fabric for Lining<br />
An elastic cord<br />
All the usual sewing bits (pins, sewing machine, needle and thread)<br />
<br />
Start by laying your charger/accessories on the fabric (right sides together) and cut enough to wrap around the device about 2.5 times lengthwise, and on the sides you want to be able to allow for a seam to join the two pieces together, and a seam that will hold the finished pouch together. You want to create a pouch with a flap that will go over the top and tuck into the front.<br />
<br />
Then cut a strip of fabric that you can sew into a tube for the strap the flap will tuck into.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzR9-sFefNP0C9jgcLEqhn8glWVvYMz8N4PHrBu9GYyEaKLYB0IkbXu4RA1Tres2udTmf5jpEnKaAkN39DwfPgHbBrMnQoeym4k4UAEFiGDBp5Zs1hbOuZeh2gNZOyIoM62mcO7jppLic/s1600/IMG_3868.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzR9-sFefNP0C9jgcLEqhn8glWVvYMz8N4PHrBu9GYyEaKLYB0IkbXu4RA1Tres2udTmf5jpEnKaAkN39DwfPgHbBrMnQoeym4k4UAEFiGDBp5Zs1hbOuZeh2gNZOyIoM62mcO7jppLic/s1600/IMG_3868.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pin and sew your tube of fabric that will make the strap that the flap goes into. Turn it in the right way and press down ready for the next stage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyCEn3WJZvzGzwRzS6j9J3KJ2wCzI45LM90DS2djeTlO_XYWYF5vRQejnHc-JnXVVwZ94hHusDoJzThXMV-Y0_uXPl4VaQVjD2zDrMbLdB2S7dZ9brgji45QUu3xTmClKgwgUUKKng0xE/s1600/IMG_3873.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyCEn3WJZvzGzwRzS6j9J3KJ2wCzI45LM90DS2djeTlO_XYWYF5vRQejnHc-JnXVVwZ94hHusDoJzThXMV-Y0_uXPl4VaQVjD2zDrMbLdB2S7dZ9brgji45QUu3xTmClKgwgUUKKng0xE/s1600/IMG_3873.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You then want to pin around the piece of fabric, but here is where it gets a bit tricky. You have to decide where you want your strap to go, and sew it into the inside of the piece. Lay it all out with the charger on top, wrap the fabric around and work out where it should go. Once you know where you want it, place the strap between the two layers. You want the strap and the outer fabric facing the same way. (So both the right side of the strap and the right side of the outer fabric are facing the lining).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1uEiEA5A-zRxgF6ILsc_UljIGA3IqD8RFe3PZ0iI6uUbQVjHHZFF2egiBsV1LO4qFdXvXdY7OmwuOh8h7AKjyrO0Cyv3DLHZzQ_59ub0k-hFQKi8YAihK6kEXoBSca4d7tKptAGY7l2o/s1600/IMG_3874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1uEiEA5A-zRxgF6ILsc_UljIGA3IqD8RFe3PZ0iI6uUbQVjHHZFF2egiBsV1LO4qFdXvXdY7OmwuOh8h7AKjyrO0Cyv3DLHZzQ_59ub0k-hFQKi8YAihK6kEXoBSca4d7tKptAGY7l2o/s1600/IMG_3874.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEineftTTnq_6BdXQCcuQmsAwARudMlVupS99djr5bQar-BJv7Y3t09H5bXOWL3lti9xQcrYCoyDdyTlTQah4z79amEICVNi0NxnPwNtwLZ9ERCDJRTWT32Ai9nDZDjFdpSf5RDveiCQhjo/s1600/IMG_3868d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEineftTTnq_6BdXQCcuQmsAwARudMlVupS99djr5bQar-BJv7Y3t09H5bXOWL3lti9xQcrYCoyDdyTlTQah4z79amEICVNi0NxnPwNtwLZ9ERCDJRTWT32Ai9nDZDjFdpSf5RDveiCQhjo/s1600/IMG_3868d.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When you sew around the rectangle, make sure you leave a gap in the seam to allow you to turn the whole thing in the right way (see above). To check if your pinned area is square, fold the bottom up to the top and see if the pins line up the whole way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I sewed this and turned it in the right way, I quickly realised that I needed to taper the end that was going to tuck under, and to make it work even better I curved the corners. (Next time I would do this at the pinning stage, but just bear in mind that you may need to adjust it a couple of times to make sure it fits.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once sorted, I turned in the right way, hand sewed the opening closed (using an<a href="http://fernandfreckle.com/tutorial-invisible-seams-the-hidden-stitch/" target="_blank"> invisible stitch</a>) and then pressed the whole thing flat with an iron.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSfMtnCwbReE7JNdznlFJPx0qqwfN46uVVbhF1sh59mU-dm9HAFPLre7g3ZBITH-wx-jDzhKklvuZ-HPoFoxoN_iRnV7cqzz0xfMLmr_oI6Ho0eZ8CTZEEHGUO5l4qLFvQoT7ZH-CYDpw/s1600/IMG_386s8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSfMtnCwbReE7JNdznlFJPx0qqwfN46uVVbhF1sh59mU-dm9HAFPLre7g3ZBITH-wx-jDzhKklvuZ-HPoFoxoN_iRnV7cqzz0xfMLmr_oI6Ho0eZ8CTZEEHGUO5l4qLFvQoT7ZH-CYDpw/s1600/IMG_386s8.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then decided where exactly I wanted my pouch to be secured (how deep to make the pocket, and how far down the flap would come), and pressed that in place as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnBIoJuuCxERqRiCs0T6ToKSNg0ksh8Kb7rWW_FhczVZVhYdlVPVx8pse2l3etzy8wm_WcRf8t5nlQgsKc7MO4d99Y37jrKCimFsjJVPJipYOgQpV3yi_hncaBi5w2CrIYVRUwUO-n8Vc/s1600/IMG_386f8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnBIoJuuCxERqRiCs0T6ToKSNg0ksh8Kb7rWW_FhczVZVhYdlVPVx8pse2l3etzy8wm_WcRf8t5nlQgsKc7MO4d99Y37jrKCimFsjJVPJipYOgQpV3yi_hncaBi5w2CrIYVRUwUO-n8Vc/s1600/IMG_386f8.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now pin down the sides (under the strap), and attach a zipper foot to your machine. You want to be able to sew under the strap, and as close to the edge of the pouch as possible. Start sewing at the bottom of the pouch, with your needle on the side closest to the edge (and the foot on the other side) and as you approach the strap just move it out of the way and sew under it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_eAVODwFuAa3HZVnCNv2Z9a9wyP9jXHNApXOfXrjoTclA0vyAj41o4a10H-DNE8t7rkRy98gXsFkbs5FxxrdGQlT3nZrLGRA8eHsAshxf-vzFxmqI359tR-K3zdrFd8zDEk8O57CcycA/s1600/IMGf_3874.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_eAVODwFuAa3HZVnCNv2Z9a9wyP9jXHNApXOfXrjoTclA0vyAj41o4a10H-DNE8t7rkRy98gXsFkbs5FxxrdGQlT3nZrLGRA8eHsAshxf-vzFxmqI359tR-K3zdrFd8zDEk8O57CcycA/s1600/IMGf_3874.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And there you have it! We just need to attach some elastic cord to make sure that the items are secured inside the pouch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8mZWfKPlR6z_Kd80pRvZQvHBOBs14Z906MMZhtmZcuc5j0kHdJVu7XBmRAYFmoygOvgp2OPKiGmIULWJQIvqV13Qf3XfWyJY-jKLeehKu811mZvow_MH7VMzuUbljNh1pcTgZGcOX3C4/s1600/IMG_3885.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8mZWfKPlR6z_Kd80pRvZQvHBOBs14Z906MMZhtmZcuc5j0kHdJVu7XBmRAYFmoygOvgp2OPKiGmIULWJQIvqV13Qf3XfWyJY-jKLeehKu811mZvow_MH7VMzuUbljNh1pcTgZGcOX3C4/s1600/IMG_3885.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wrap your elastic around the pouch and tighten as much as is necessary to ensure that the contents are nice and secure. Mark with pics where they join.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgFuIDFsr4gN9j-zNDo1dQkMz7sTXuhIhGGSw5r-O2xUzqyCNKbSwN0wGh5n0Osw83r2H02sT8CpC0Q17CB6Zrvrvk862wWISEv4dhN3U93w-IMoyUosVSDD_Bo7cPV6HV8-IajJuAdZU/s1600/IMG_38dd68.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgFuIDFsr4gN9j-zNDo1dQkMz7sTXuhIhGGSw5r-O2xUzqyCNKbSwN0wGh5n0Osw83r2H02sT8CpC0Q17CB6Zrvrvk862wWISEv4dhN3U93w-IMoyUosVSDD_Bo7cPV6HV8-IajJuAdZU/s1600/IMG_38dd68.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To pin it in place for sewing, place the pins on either side of where you wish to sew (I sewed along that seam where the two fabrics meet). Then set your stitch to the smallest setting, and moving the front of the pouch out of the way, secure the elastic in place by going back and forwards over it a few times.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To finish this, we want to tie a knot tightly in the cord to cover the join, and then trim and carefully melt the ends with a lighter to ensure they don't fray. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<br />
I had a rummage around my fabric bags and came across some denim that was left over when I cut two pairs of jeans into shorts - a grey leopard print, and a black denim (slightly washed looking). As they were the lower parts of the leg, there was not a huge amount of depth to the sections of fabric I could salvage - I squared it off, and sewed the denim together, alternating between print and plain fabric. I then sewed the seams flat and I had a nice big piece of material to work with.<br />
<br />
For the lining I used the bottom part of a black maxi skirt that I cut into a mini (just goes to show that you should never throw out fabric remnants!) It wasn't really cushy enough for a laptop sleeve, so I also added a layer of sweatshirt material to the lining (positioned between the two fabrics).<br />

<br />
<br />
I had a hunt around the internet for a good idea for the sleeve - I toyed with the idea of doing a simple slip-inside pouch style, then thought I would challenge myself a bit more and make one with a zip. I had a 55cm grey zip that was the perfect length for this 13" notebook.<br />
<br />
Now I thought there was no point giving you a step-by-step on the project, when this woman has done such a good job already! Here is the tutorial I followed: <span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.29px;"><a href="http://www.designsponge.com/2011/09/sewing-101-electronics-sleeve.html">http://www.designsponge.com/2011/09/sewing-101-electronics-sleeve.html</a></span><br />

As a contribution, my sister asked me if I could make her wedding cake. A daunting prospect! I made my own a few years previously, but it was pretty rough... so I did a practice run for a friends 30th party which came out quite nicely!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK4J5Qh0ucKaJGrxqlNOAUMkoUqo7nMwLvmyajdHdBYugtnmPyz6yxVCpZ0mVITObD61XtJEwKb-kL1OaF7RG6wmr3Z53BU5RqFgptatoXw4RWI_FmHDTh3D8CDgxXX6MEe7HaN1j5gns/s1600/IMG_2622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK4J5Qh0ucKaJGrxqlNOAUMkoUqo7nMwLvmyajdHdBYugtnmPyz6yxVCpZ0mVITObD61XtJEwKb-kL1OaF7RG6wmr3Z53BU5RqFgptatoXw4RWI_FmHDTh3D8CDgxXX6MEe7HaN1j5gns/s1600/IMG_2622.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I changed a few things for the wedding cake, the height of the lower tier and also the colour of the pearl powder I used for the pearls that outlined the edge of the cake (in this image I used white, in the final one I used gold - I wanted Ivory but they had run out of stock.)</div>
<br />
The cake is a <a href="http://www.exclusivelyfood.com.au/2006/07/white-chocolate-mud-cake-recipe.html" target="_blank">white chocolate mudcake</a> and you can find the recipe <a href="http://www.exclusivelyfood.com.au/2006/07/white-chocolate-mud-cake-recipe.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I made five cakes in total - three larger ones for the bottom tier and two smaller cakes which were trimmed down for the top tier. I leveled each cake and sliced through the middle, assembling the cake with 5 layers on the bottom and four slightly thicker layers on the top - each sandwiched with <a href="http://www.exclusivelyfood.com.au/2006/07/white-chocolate-mud-cake-recipe.html" target="_blank">sour cream and white chocolate ganache.</a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Once that is complete, I did a crumb coat with a plain buttercream and left to set before starting on the piped roses.<br />

<br />
The pearls were made using a ready-made white chocolate flavoured royal icing (had a nice creamy colour). I cut slices and then cut those into evenly sliced squares which were rolled into balls and put into an airtight container. I then dropped some of the pearl powder in and shook it all around to evenly coat. The pearls were darker than I wanted but I was generally pleased with how they turned out.<br />

<b>DIY LETTER CAKE TOPPERS</b><br />
<br />
These were made using salt dough, moulded then baked in the oven. I then used a fine builders premixed putty to fill in the cracks, and sprayed with a gloss gold spray paint. I was really pleased with the finished result!<br />

Bos is now getting to an age where he is paying far more attention to the world around him, so this week I thought I would add to his sky-themed cot area with a DIY paper plane mobile.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
MATERIALS:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Coloured paper or pages from a magazine</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Plain white paper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Scissors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Thin nylon thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- A ribbon to hang them from</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First I selected some colourful pages from a magazine and cut them into rectangles measuring 20cm x 13.5cm. I ended up choosing to use only the teal and pink page for my planes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM4B5wDbM7iyee_m7vBMKprFGFfHiBRzbrac-35mxLPmt0SIfTyvdZ8VEK_bU76Sxma1gnsxXsikFG11RuhLw8tl_AwMhYAeZ5Iy2kKgZSHdDggyvD9eyxgihl5FGQ3WSSP0R5FMM6a1I/s1600/Mobile+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM4B5wDbM7iyee_m7vBMKprFGFfHiBRzbrac-35mxLPmt0SIfTyvdZ8VEK_bU76Sxma1gnsxXsikFG11RuhLw8tl_AwMhYAeZ5Iy2kKgZSHdDggyvD9eyxgihl5FGQ3WSSP0R5FMM6a1I/s1600/Mobile+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5WU3tjryCEHvLZxMkuqZKqjgEjBUpH_8yyH0w4uXWoxYjL5uAY-ImfbOnnz73NdQeT2nWunUzhMwa3gNGQrRa7KABkLJW2mB7dELw2ZkGlJWqEcON8Yw_0G9gNBYqDcUb9KRDM1Z0-2w/s1600/Mobile+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5WU3tjryCEHvLZxMkuqZKqjgEjBUpH_8yyH0w4uXWoxYjL5uAY-ImfbOnnz73NdQeT2nWunUzhMwa3gNGQrRa7KABkLJW2mB7dELw2ZkGlJWqEcON8Yw_0G9gNBYqDcUb9KRDM1Z0-2w/s1600/Mobile+4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Turns out I could not figure out how to fold a cute plane! So I used <a href="http://www.amazingpaperairplanes.com/sailplane/Sailplane_video.html" target="_blank">this tutorial</a>, and <a href="http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Paper-Airplane" target="_blank">here</a> is another good one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI0i6nQELZXqXHlxembwkMERdqdfCt4JjnM2RNkIO7zG4_kr0iaghw90Hj30dhlFnlrzc8xty4RiFRmAH6PK1QsJWFoyx0Sm5trol_QY4pbbnRdM7ij0PVxaGSdUz6ztZekHNSXAv-P6s/s1600/Mobile+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI0i6nQELZXqXHlxembwkMERdqdfCt4JjnM2RNkIO7zG4_kr0iaghw90Hj30dhlFnlrzc8xty4RiFRmAH6PK1QsJWFoyx0Sm5trol_QY4pbbnRdM7ij0PVxaGSdUz6ztZekHNSXAv-P6s/s1600/Mobile+5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I created the clouds from simple white printer paper, but if you have light card that would be even better. Cut two identical clouds, find the centre of the cloud then down the middle of each, cut a slit to that middle point (half of the way down/up). On one go from the top, and the other from the bottom. Slot them together and they should align at the top. (You could also<a href="http://petitecomeaux.wordpress.com/2012/10/19/diy-paper-cloud-mobile-tutorial/" target="_blank"> sew them together</a> if you want to be real fancy).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxS0RbqS5g9RJ5LNL1dkPO5BwjyxJtBYkkkEPU3f0OAM0sjH530k4-qot_LAvhJFl6fwuWOY6H0cXr1GlQqcTCrgr3fzYaLXHfFpMRMAN8JS1rsqVrix5SGaFY99AaZwmtksW2jKgcrnU/s1600/Mobile+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxS0RbqS5g9RJ5LNL1dkPO5BwjyxJtBYkkkEPU3f0OAM0sjH530k4-qot_LAvhJFl6fwuWOY6H0cXr1GlQqcTCrgr3fzYaLXHfFpMRMAN8JS1rsqVrix5SGaFY99AaZwmtksW2jKgcrnU/s1600/Mobile+6.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgykG3aJ37TrPU_H0JYMnZsCOVbtiJSZWGDnyXK6juCQEgcxtRm-0Z2ey1TzohDZs7Thj03Hf4ubPInWPK0NJogJrRfpI-mFNl8i2Pi2NUa8MI8x25RaRGQaITxAOXgt_UcHc4lt_mCzlE/s1600/Mobile+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgykG3aJ37TrPU_H0JYMnZsCOVbtiJSZWGDnyXK6juCQEgcxtRm-0Z2ey1TzohDZs7Thj03Hf4ubPInWPK0NJogJrRfpI-mFNl8i2Pi2NUa8MI8x25RaRGQaITxAOXgt_UcHc4lt_mCzlE/s1600/Mobile+7.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
They will then become 3D, and even using thin paper will hold their shape as above, and catch the breeze to spin in the air.<br />
<br />
I made four planes and two clouds in total. I then threaded a needle with some clear nylon thread and used the needle to make holes in the top of each plane and cloud, threading the nylon through and knotting to secure. (Make sure on the clouds you go through both pieces of paper).<br />
<br />
I was going to hang these of a piece of driftwood, but realised I needed the mobile to be really light to hang from a sheet suspended above the cot, so I simply strung them along a piece of blue ribbon and pinned that to the sheet.<br />

<br />
So although this is not a baking blog, I thought I would share my best EVER chocolate chip cookie recipe. These are delicious, Subway-style, soft, chewy biscuits that just melt in your mouth... one is never enough!<br />
<br />
My good friend Keri recently started an amazing food blog called <a href="http://the-goodness.net/" target="_blank">The Goodness</a>, basically this recipe is the antithesis of any you will find on there! But forget about your waistline for a minute, preheat your oven and get ready to bake.<br />
<br />
<b>CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES</b><br />
<br />
2 cups flour<br />
1/2 teaspoon baking soda<br />
1/2 teaspoon salt<br />
170g unsalted butter, melted<br />
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar<br />
1/2 cup white sugar<br />
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract<br />
1 egg<br />
1 egg yolk<br />
2 cups milk chocolate buttons<br />
<br />
Preheat the oven to170 degrees C (not fan-forced). Grease baking trays or line with baking paper.<br />
<br />
Mix together the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Beat in the vanilla, egg, and egg yolk with an electric beater until light and creamy. Sift in the dry ingredients and mix with a spoon until just blended. Stir in the chocolate. buttons, and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.<br />
<br />
Make balls of dough and drop onto the prepared baking trays. Place them about 3 inches apart. (The main thing is not to flatten them at all, as they will spread by themselves).<br />
<br />
Bake the cookies for exactly 15 in the preheated oven. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely. This usually makes about 30 medium sized cookies.<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

Now that I am on maternity leave I have challenged myself to put more time and energy into my design work, trying to get more experience under my belt. It is a LOT daunting putting myself out there... but here goes!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a recent edition of Fashion Quarterly I saw this ridiculously expensive chain necklace. I thought I would make one for myself, so I raided my box full of random jewellery bits and pieces to put it together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't have the right piece of chunky chain on hand, so decided to do it with what I did have which was a really short fine chain and some larger oval chain. (You should be able to get hold of lengths of fine chain, clasps and chunky chain from a craft store to make one for yourself.)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihwrYRxuR6Uk-vZfo7SX_dV_AGsKw2fJKOXMAC0NsdXiaCoIKtKY2ssiFCiK8UZHYeIemIraKjkbByhuxSbO37jKEcXScA5uAn37hym-AMnFns0QP0dbg9ife8x0ZP1WwscemTgETDYl8/s1600/Necklace3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihwrYRxuR6Uk-vZfo7SX_dV_AGsKw2fJKOXMAC0NsdXiaCoIKtKY2ssiFCiK8UZHYeIemIraKjkbByhuxSbO37jKEcXScA5uAn37hym-AMnFns0QP0dbg9ife8x0ZP1WwscemTgETDYl8/s1600/Necklace3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I joined the junky chain into a circle and folded that in half to start, then attached loops at each end. I then attached these to the fine chain.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpdEbRLqTyQkk-PvpwRNsdbtXtrTRZL1KogY9fqe0a9RYtNV5x0BssXcIOtP0PYsUuRufyBdBz11B4i38UMWNqsoiaDXVqJXx_anMltpxQCe3aMCyShbRegl0F1sWxWX0GC733arMMr30/s1600/Necklace4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpdEbRLqTyQkk-PvpwRNsdbtXtrTRZL1KogY9fqe0a9RYtNV5x0BssXcIOtP0PYsUuRufyBdBz11B4i38UMWNqsoiaDXVqJXx_anMltpxQCe3aMCyShbRegl0F1sWxWX0GC733arMMr30/s1600/Necklace4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Voila! You could make a much nicer one of these using custom purchased pieces, and make a beautiful necklace for a fraction of the cost of the original. I would definitely put the clasp at the back of the neck if I was building this from purchased pieces too :)</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I loved the look of the ripped white jeans with the fabric behind the holes. I really like ripped jeans, but often do not love the look of my (sometimes pale) legs showing through.<br />
<br />
About 3 months ago I went along to a clothes swap and picked up these beauties and set about making them more wearable:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlUA84A27Q3BE66OjuxURr6fUrfO2DFe7vZRAUyjvkT4MlDLW0HZVIVYjnIp9KMynb9PdL47oGTNYCGfFm3YQCy_VvXDrRBLyCtTHSF63jSl0-FI_-x5M6SmpKGXpKixYtC9z2DShb_jM/s1600/Jeans1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlUA84A27Q3BE66OjuxURr6fUrfO2DFe7vZRAUyjvkT4MlDLW0HZVIVYjnIp9KMynb9PdL47oGTNYCGfFm3YQCy_VvXDrRBLyCtTHSF63jSl0-FI_-x5M6SmpKGXpKixYtC9z2DShb_jM/s1600/Jeans1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Ripped jeans</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Fabric to cover holes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Needle and thread (same colour as jeans)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Sewing pins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOPRrRKj_yItgQprOrcwgSQE0v9Nay0r_e92Qn-VOTJRUHud2Q2NaCsnT99RsAaObnpT3kAPu_tKjdF7AQyzzYsYv2FQwaDHpHYD_7KQyDXX0fd7Ev0o4adySh-jrBhtM6-v1aRSbCU1A/s1600/Jeans2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOPRrRKj_yItgQprOrcwgSQE0v9Nay0r_e92Qn-VOTJRUHud2Q2NaCsnT99RsAaObnpT3kAPu_tKjdF7AQyzzYsYv2FQwaDHpHYD_7KQyDXX0fd7Ev0o4adySh-jrBhtM6-v1aRSbCU1A/s1600/Jeans2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I popped down to the local op shop and picked out a grey long sleeve turtle neck top, in a light stretch fabric. As these jeans are quite tight - I needed the stretch in the fabric so that the patches would move with me and the rest of the pants.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGYxqFNQ4KjzMJon23mJYbNt3nIZW4H8Gn6HzsWHhInlJbQprN6JKaYJFrhO2XorOLX5FdsSa_AXU96niqDmAWiLLbPCtI90Wbjc973oV18Sc76QmNEBWd0fSpfgLTko-ZwOzF8v2hudM/s1600/Jeans3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGYxqFNQ4KjzMJon23mJYbNt3nIZW4H8Gn6HzsWHhInlJbQprN6JKaYJFrhO2XorOLX5FdsSa_AXU96niqDmAWiLLbPCtI90Wbjc973oV18Sc76QmNEBWd0fSpfgLTko-ZwOzF8v2hudM/s1600/Jeans3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then cut patches about 1 inch wider than the holes in the pants, placed the fabric behind the holes, and from the front, pinned the patches to the jeans.</div>

One thing I really hate though are tacky Christmas themed gift tags, so this year I decided to make some myself out of some scrap white cardboard I had in the house.<br />
<br />
I wanted to make simple shapes with simple borders - and used a fine-tipped permanent marker to draw them on, but a fancy ink pen would probably do the job much nicer if you have one!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR_XY7J_ITdUza124ZD3v6fLFBI3J-ZOBG4NeuNTbUiZhIQpKIen8zNjaJ5byaK5aCDDYzvdV4tS_3VZafA7DEPXKITzVSjbyi7zP5XyB9OKAy47mqNQMubf1NhZCA77z3LcRXa5DxyjY/s1600/GiftTags1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR_XY7J_ITdUza124ZD3v6fLFBI3J-ZOBG4NeuNTbUiZhIQpKIen8zNjaJ5byaK5aCDDYzvdV4tS_3VZafA7DEPXKITzVSjbyi7zP5XyB9OKAy47mqNQMubf1NhZCA77z3LcRXa5DxyjY/s1600/GiftTags1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have uploaded a scan of the ones I drew, as well as some created on the computer if you want to <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B03HPwMFgBUNR1llUXdZZE9tQmc" target="_blank">download them HERE. </a> You can then print and cut out on light card, or just use it to copy from onto your own card.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then you can get to the really fun part...
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wrapping :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Christmas time is nearly here, and this year I decided to make a few gifts to save some money. My sister and brother-in-law are about to jump on a plane and take their three kids to Cambodia for six months to volunteer for a charity. They said 'no Christmas presents' because the postal system over there is not very reliable, so I had a think about what I could make for them that would be fun for the trip, and I could give to my nieces and nephew beforehand.<br />
<br />
I came across<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/96294585/crayon-and-paper-small-coloring-wallet?ref=sr_gallery_6&ga_search_query=crayon+wallet+pattern&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_search_type=all" target="_blank"> this pattern</a> on Etsy (Via Pinterest) and thought that I would create a few myself, with a little addition of a cute animal friend on the front.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT_L4nS4PgA9I-8dL2wHqhyi5RgMESBsleXhn7r1LF6rqXLnrhVbVJdbxacPpcoPzwtdI6Cs_lR_Jjv7qzH8ZOH1U74FYgIDsx9sCc_Y1lduAZI7kfYofMn-QmcP2pGxvmwds06AwzHE0/s1600/CrayonCaddy1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT_L4nS4PgA9I-8dL2wHqhyi5RgMESBsleXhn7r1LF6rqXLnrhVbVJdbxacPpcoPzwtdI6Cs_lR_Jjv7qzH8ZOH1U74FYgIDsx9sCc_Y1lduAZI7kfYofMn-QmcP2pGxvmwds06AwzHE0/s1600/CrayonCaddy1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The idea for the pocket friend came from my lovely Grandmother. When I was about 5 or 6 years old, she made my sister and I dressing gowns each, that had a little pocket and animal attached by a ribbon. We thought they were just the bees knees! I chose a different animal for each of my nieces and nephew, and sewed their initial onto the pockets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN4ImRTvg_Y2Qc_MyJR03PemPf3kBhlWHIwbgYDm8TwOjHMHuXYGWs-JHCqrJkU1xUumS_BzxuywZW_vl2NiomQyzoFKqhhTwJtwQqUePIShFDfp8-ZYiXjzo8NRnxAJK7MecTlApJ_LA/s1600/CrayonCaddy3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN4ImRTvg_Y2Qc_MyJR03PemPf3kBhlWHIwbgYDm8TwOjHMHuXYGWs-JHCqrJkU1xUumS_BzxuywZW_vl2NiomQyzoFKqhhTwJtwQqUePIShFDfp8-ZYiXjzo8NRnxAJK7MecTlApJ_LA/s1600/CrayonCaddy3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see below how the envelope unfolds. This ended up being a very cost-effective gift - the packets of crayons were $2 each from a dollar shop, and the notepads were $1.80 each from the supermarket. Fabric was a mix of some I had on hand, with a couple of items specially purchased from the quilting store.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi78MpWzz687oxk_3t1TefNSCg_j2_BUuVSZkMSmOTiiT1vPIKlqQI1BJoZ7O-3azZ0TVijNCcGGaxbNbfLatC8Zhkaq63ZCFj3g2XK1DYsmFsBCSbfTbskUyYk9SB0VzAg7MwGaYzXuag/s1600/CrayonCaddy4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi78MpWzz687oxk_3t1TefNSCg_j2_BUuVSZkMSmOTiiT1vPIKlqQI1BJoZ7O-3azZ0TVijNCcGGaxbNbfLatC8Zhkaq63ZCFj3g2XK1DYsmFsBCSbfTbskUyYk9SB0VzAg7MwGaYzXuag/s1600/CrayonCaddy4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want to make one of these yourself, you could <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/96294585/crayon-and-paper-small-coloring-wallet?ref=sr_gallery_6&ga_search_query=crayon+wallet+pattern&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_search_type=all" target="_blank">purchase the pattern from Etsy</a>, or you could have a play and pull one together yourself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are the measurements of the final product:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started trying to pull step-by-step instructions together but it was a bit of trial and error so I thought I would leave off! When making the strip that will hold the crayons in, make it longer than you need (start with about 20cm) so you can bunch it up as needed to fit the crayons in, then tuck the excess into the two main layers before you sew around the outside (make that the final step - apart from the sewing top edge which I sewed together first - tucking the crayon strip inside to secure well)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You could also <a href="http://www.etsy.com/search?q=crayon%20wallet&view_type=gallery&ship_to=ZZ" target="_blank">buy one of these ready-made</a> of course :)</div>

He won't have a whole room to himself, but there is a nice little alcove in our bunks room which we can make his.<br />
<br />
We picked up an awesome cot for only $35 (just needs a little TLC) so I have decided to base the colour scheme for the little corner around this.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4auHHCQR2_nyiDr9CKi8kZeEL9CICUOtNJaxqbQXcN-V1lkocEGs8L4mjSEz61DhP0RJk4NjP6Ivh6MW-LooJ2XX2iulnpnl9VE0BG_avf-dMQJUkMEm0skEFzQrq_7y29-w8MC1c4qQ/s1600/Colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4auHHCQR2_nyiDr9CKi8kZeEL9CICUOtNJaxqbQXcN-V1lkocEGs8L4mjSEz61DhP0RJk4NjP6Ivh6MW-LooJ2XX2iulnpnl9VE0BG_avf-dMQJUkMEm0skEFzQrq_7y29-w8MC1c4qQ/s1600/Colours.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Check out the alcove, the cot and a lamp I made from something I found at the Recycle Centre below:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOO4hZ7QGLiTCDWFh_KQFCLxhQsV6hJXJ4ynHXbpRwLacdDzCLY3ofTDJW2zxry2OhZ1NMo9nhpUiGXWuinFRjFSKBNFwb8oRkQf0gOhLCvncYqZhyphenhyphenUql1C6oaUXpkTpgwhKPpSQTUr2M/s1600/babysroom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOO4hZ7QGLiTCDWFh_KQFCLxhQsV6hJXJ4ynHXbpRwLacdDzCLY3ofTDJW2zxry2OhZ1NMo9nhpUiGXWuinFRjFSKBNFwb8oRkQf0gOhLCvncYqZhyphenhyphenUql1C6oaUXpkTpgwhKPpSQTUr2M/s1600/babysroom.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Our landlord has told us we can paint the wall behind the cot, so I am thinking a pale grey would go nicely with the existing green walls, and compliment the turquoise, orange and brown colours.<br />
<br />
There are so many great ideas out there for little DIY projects that I think I can incorporate into the area - one I am loving is the 'paint swatch' dresser.<br />

<br />
Here is my initial thoughts for what I will do to the space, the colours on the dresser are the test pots I bought today so that I can start on that project right away:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwU6Q72-ANWa4cCJg_AldfPceEETyg3leKJ4UxFjmXoOp_Xpq-7C6LxbT6Oxej7rwHr1xGZu_PrXzZFFgK5Y6kT3YsIcD0CZ0xWMwqmKErCJvMBw73Gyi4iCcOBq8b3QVz-Zt1_oFneac/s1600/babysroom2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwU6Q72-ANWa4cCJg_AldfPceEETyg3leKJ4UxFjmXoOp_Xpq-7C6LxbT6Oxej7rwHr1xGZu_PrXzZFFgK5Y6kT3YsIcD0CZ0xWMwqmKErCJvMBw73Gyi4iCcOBq8b3QVz-Zt1_oFneac/s1600/babysroom2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also bought some great frames from the second hand store this weekend, so will create something to put into those for behind the cot. I am also on the hunt for a large letter (like the 'B' in that dresser image above) so may incorporate that into the wall as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some baby rooms I found online that have some neat elements:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
It was with great excitement that I opened the envelope because I had been given the great honour of designing it. We went for a baby's breath theme to tie in with the bridesmaids' flowers and a dusky blue to match the groom's suit.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
I love making bracelets out of everyday objects. A year or
so ago I made these Hex Nut bracelets (I made another with a beige string but
couldn’t find it today to take a pic) and this zipper bracelet. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I was thinking about making some more Hex Nut jewellery so
popped into the hardware store and picked up the smallest ones I could find –
3mm. I am not sure what other people use to make the actual bracelet, but I
have found that venetian blind cord is the best. It does not fray or soften,
and you can melt the ends with a flame to keep it tidy. I used the smallest width
I could find of 1.5mm.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I decided that instead of plaiting them on like last time,
they would look really striking stacked. To keep the band delicate, I knotted
15 at a time onto a single strand of cord. I wanted to have two rows that sat
together, slightly staggered, so decided instead of making two bracelets I
would place two rows of stacked nuts on the same strand. I finished it off with
a loop on one end, and tied another Hex Nut onto the other end to secure it.<o:p></o:p><br />
<br />
I won't bore you with the step-by-step pics (because it is very basic) but basically you cut a 50cm or so length or cord and tie your first knot about 12cm in. Stack on the nuts and knot off.<br />
<br />
You then need to wrap it around your wrist to see where you want the next stack to start, and put a knot there. Stack on another 15 nuts, and knot off.<br />
<br />
To finish, I tied a hex nut on one end, and then made a loop that would be big enough to thread it through (without the nut falling out). I then trimmed and melted the ends of the cord with a lighter to keep it neat.</div>

I went on a trip to the Recycle Centre on the weekend and found some awesome retro items. My favourite were these Royal Kitchen Scales - the Swedish lady in the shop even taught me how to use them as her mother had some just like them when she was a child. They are a lot more fiddly to use than my regular kitchen scales, so these may just be used for decorative purposes only. I thought the ceramic planter on top matched perfectly, so am going to make some paper flowers or find some faux peonies to put in there.</div>

She has been such a great friend over the years and I cannot wait to share her and Scottie's big day with them! I am also delighted to be designing the wedding invitations which I will share later on.<br />

I couldn't resist showing you the pictures from her engagement shoot which was organised by <a href="http://www.facebook.com/TheBayWeddingCollective" target="_blank"> The Bay Wedding Collective</a>, a group of the Bay Of Plenty’s most creative and professional wedding vendors. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really wanted him to have a doggy bed, because once he is big enough (and the weather is warm enough) he will be living outside in his awesome kennel with full run of the yard. I thought a nice, comfy spot in the sun on the deck would be great. But even at The Warehouse, a decent dog bed (with a hard case and pillow) runs you up to about $100! Not really something I could justify. So off to the Recycle Centre I went and came back with the following haul!</div>

<br />
Yesterday I set to putting it all together - making the pillow to put inside the cane bed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL3mkDF1wdkU4WGJVntDUD5QBqkJLMzrreZ3SQWoAMzmZMO_7-9LsJVIDc8QSvBZO3eqoJvleszM73K8nlQ3ggwLWrFWWDOyoNNmWExjsCi4BXvLPs4ZB0yMWPI92QnFDdtUJHb2lCdNY/s1600/PuppyBed2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL3mkDF1wdkU4WGJVntDUD5QBqkJLMzrreZ3SQWoAMzmZMO_7-9LsJVIDc8QSvBZO3eqoJvleszM73K8nlQ3ggwLWrFWWDOyoNNmWExjsCi4BXvLPs4ZB0yMWPI92QnFDdtUJHb2lCdNY/s1600/PuppyBed2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was some cardboard lining the bottom of the bed which came in handy for measuring the fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I laid the baby blanket on top of a single layer of the sheet. I figured that if the cardboard template was the size of the bottom I would allow an extra 12cm for cutting, which should be enough for the seam, and still fill the bed nicely once all the padding is added. I also cut 8 strips of the baby blanket to make ties to hold the pillow in place (as Patches loves chewing and I figure he'll drag it out of the bed otherwise!) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAknYcMlcHSbNU3HW3xH8ooGoyZazd5kcMArMcWCCHt0Z9yknfRddMraHrY7hauZY_wFCL7nOACkjX3IvPVUrJ8PWiPoXGcFHf3I6cbpUwgPfZkK472OH2Iw1Pva7v00nJoik2EIP_Kng/s1600/PuppyBed3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAknYcMlcHSbNU3HW3xH8ooGoyZazd5kcMArMcWCCHt0Z9yknfRddMraHrY7hauZY_wFCL7nOACkjX3IvPVUrJ8PWiPoXGcFHf3I6cbpUwgPfZkK472OH2Iw1Pva7v00nJoik2EIP_Kng/s1600/PuppyBed3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once cut, I then peeled back the top layer, placing two strips at a time down on top of each other to make my ties - pointing inwards. I sewed the whole thing up, doing a double row of straight stitching for strength, and then zig-zagging the edges, leaving a 20cm-ish gap to put the stuffing in. Turning it in the right way - I now had the oval shape with the ties sticking out, gap to the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now my preference at this stage was to just stuff the duvet inner inside and sew it up. Done and dusted! But my wise husband came in at the point and made two suggestions/observations.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. What if the puppy wees all over it - can you wash it?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Wouldn't it be better to layer the duvet up then cut it to fit rather than stuff it in?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Both were pretty good observations and that bought about the unexpected second phase of the project - the doggy pillow. This way, I can wash the cover without having to get the filling wet, and if I need to wash the pillow, it will probably dry faster if the filling is laid out nicely.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5dqUO4t1pnD7s3y1omDvQ1xd83ODKaWkB5Hsqi90eW-HLUoxZDM0K3pPGWxSAQchvIRxkj2Uhwl90R0PEdurS71hH_w1WJHYVo8DsSnlGEFSZTo9bebvyD4MAdIRsSkvijuqg6cxtsS4/s1600/PuppyBed4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5dqUO4t1pnD7s3y1omDvQ1xd83ODKaWkB5Hsqi90eW-HLUoxZDM0K3pPGWxSAQchvIRxkj2Uhwl90R0PEdurS71hH_w1WJHYVo8DsSnlGEFSZTo9bebvyD4MAdIRsSkvijuqg6cxtsS4/s1600/PuppyBed4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the pillow I laid the inside-out cover out on top of two layers of the white sheet and traced around it with a soft pencil. I then cut it up, and sewed it - leaving about a 15cm gap to put the stuffing through. I then folded it in the right way, laid it on top of the duvet (folded into four layers), and set about cutting around the case.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjirYN9u3rFvKnwHbEwv8waOOqesHwlm6NNCIWpk29i5gKbpj_Lu1ik3QKZZWHbuprvaDpgWbyf-DbN7qN26TNqmtS96pKepjpUyM9Pqtoo0Y6XO_f7fs6QOcRQY2KEKmvnheeGgG1GIZA/s1600/PuppyBed5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjirYN9u3rFvKnwHbEwv8waOOqesHwlm6NNCIWpk29i5gKbpj_Lu1ik3QKZZWHbuprvaDpgWbyf-DbN7qN26TNqmtS96pKepjpUyM9Pqtoo0Y6XO_f7fs6QOcRQY2KEKmvnheeGgG1GIZA/s1600/PuppyBed5.jpg" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I did that, I stuffed the filling inside then smoothed it all out so it fitted nicely. I figured that seeing as my filling had structure (rather than loose filling), I had better do something to hold it in place, so I put four pin tucks (not sure if that's the correct terminology...) I then hand sewed the hole shut - and viola! One doggy pillow all ready for the case.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the cover I decided to keep it simple and make a dome fastened opening so that I can remove the pillow when needed. And then it was all done! I put it into the bed, pulled the tabs through the cane and knotted them off, tucking the ends back through to avoid tempting sharp puppy teeth!
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZCMc5bsIPmZhdpvFSNszxsUZtUxFgfsm4wU2GGxnUbkuMDuNZw-kuB8C1LR2sDE1KkWZwyVVU6vuAGLolfImGlAhbITax0I-WoF2Lr9jXPpq_kTbbtVNUkyBjxjm_LXDkswMIy7junuQ/s1600/PuppyBed6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZCMc5bsIPmZhdpvFSNszxsUZtUxFgfsm4wU2GGxnUbkuMDuNZw-kuB8C1LR2sDE1KkWZwyVVU6vuAGLolfImGlAhbITax0I-WoF2Lr9jXPpq_kTbbtVNUkyBjxjm_LXDkswMIy7junuQ/s1600/PuppyBed6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So the final test... does it get Patches' seal of approval?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO1QSOqrSm7odvPFskP2Rd3hm-NlEubWLO1KyiBBOK5oJ1ZbOF0KM5XI_hjvYKJvTXcGwQgaIaeSk73VSEuIbRJT9u6DTNJ83sxX8llTUEd79fzHtaku95W9zgV0gYiJW2KKyKoRqa-4Y/s1600/PuppyBed7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO1QSOqrSm7odvPFskP2Rd3hm-NlEubWLO1KyiBBOK5oJ1ZbOF0KM5XI_hjvYKJvTXcGwQgaIaeSk73VSEuIbRJT9u6DTNJ83sxX8llTUEd79fzHtaku95W9zgV0gYiJW2KKyKoRqa-4Y/s1600/PuppyBed7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think so! And he's already trying to pry the pillow of there so those ties were a handy addition.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want to make a puppy pillow at home, you will need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A sewing machine</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Polar Fleece Fabric (I would have done both sides in the fleece, but seeing as I was using second hand items went with what I could find)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
White fabric (an old sheet is perfect for the pillow case)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some sort of stuffing - you could empty old pillows or buy it new, or use a second hand duvet inner like me</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some domes (or a zip if you prefer)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A hard bed (if you can find one, however the pillow on its own would still be fine - especially for an inside dog)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About 2-3 hours</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are not the sewing type - then I also found a great tutorial for a no-sew doggy bed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uVOKTo7iVcU </div>

I have been so slack with posting anything lately, things around here have become a bit mundane (work, cook, eat, sleep - you know the drill) and I haven't been very creative at all!<br />
<br />
I went to a friend's house on Tuesday night and she had such a cool shopping list on her fridge! It was a pad with tear off pages that each had a list of all sorts of different grocery items with check boxes beside them - the idea being that when you run out of something you check the box, and then tear that sheet off at the end of the week to do your shopping!<br />
<br />
I thought I would create one of my own, a bit more personalised to all the things that I buy - so have a look, and perhaps you could make one for yourself, or you can download mine <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B03HPwMFgBUNV1lZUWRkOTRBMm8" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />

So last week we moved into our AMAZING new home. We are very blessed to have been able to find this house, and it is now all unpacked and lovely and I have almost finished setting up :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was however, a little disappointed when I went to make the bed in our spare room because I had forgotten that my white waffle knit duvet cover was only a double, and did not fit the queen sized bed! We had recently purchased this granite duvet cover as a spare so it went on instead. (You can see we do not have an iron... I am sure once a few guests sleep in it the cover will soften up!) I still have put my favourite green, white and beige quilt on top, and thought that a nice wee cushion would help to tie it all together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFAUYzL2AmPk_6OQJQg-WUZLAoXg3WiBMU9Gf1ZKRuC8hcAlSwvhI3qC1dmU49KKGZvw7lRnvrV_sWdaB-pwmnHOaney8c-1N9nstSo1nFkXaTwOsfgjq0x50rDszlXcVMREoKsao2qlA/s1600/Pillow1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFAUYzL2AmPk_6OQJQg-WUZLAoXg3WiBMU9Gf1ZKRuC8hcAlSwvhI3qC1dmU49KKGZvw7lRnvrV_sWdaB-pwmnHOaney8c-1N9nstSo1nFkXaTwOsfgjq0x50rDszlXcVMREoKsao2qlA/s1600/Pillow1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"> </span><span style="background-color: white;">A little while ago I picked up some fabric from the Recycle Centre in a green and white check so I used that. </span>I did not have a spare cushion, but did have a very thin old pillow, so folded that in half to get my inner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lay your pillow or cushion inner onto your fabric and cut around. I did an inch, but to get a snug fitting cover, only do a centimetre or so.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Once you have cut it, visualise it in thirds, that is where you want your back pieces to go to on each side once you have folded the edge back. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;">To cut the two back pieces, get another piece of your fabric and double it over. Line up the first piece you</span><span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"> cut with one edge to guide you - Measure out about an inch or so (however much you want to fold under) from where you want the finished folded edge to sit and cut. Then cut down the fold to separate your two back pieces.</span>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;">Take each back piece and fold the edge over. If you have an iron, iron it now to hold it in place (if you want to be really thorough, sew this fold as well).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lay them out on your first piece, with the folded edge side towards you, one piece with the gap at the top, then overlay the second piece so the gap is at the bottom. Pin it all around where you want to sew, and sew it up. (Of course when I went to do this my machine broke, so thankfully my neighbour let me use hers!)</div>

<span style="text-align: left;">Now - this cover is VERY quick and rough. If you want to make something more long lasting, make sure you zig zag all the edges (I didn't bother as I was borrowing someone else's machine so wanted to be quick), sew down the edge of the folds, and you can even add button holes and buttons to the fold at the back</span><span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;">!</span></div>

I've been wanting to photograph this lovely horse for ages. He (or she, I didn't check) often stands by the road early in the morning watching the cars drive by, and finally this week I had my camera with me and stopped to snap a few pictures.</div>
